Jab Molassie
Jab Molassie is a re-working of Igor Stravinsky's 'L'Histoire du Soldat'. The script is written by Caitlyn Kamminga with music by Dominique Le Gendre.
Stravinsky's original is a Faustian tale of a soldier deserting the First World War, who happens upon the devil and winds up selling his soul, represented by the violin, in exchange for untold wealth. This tale is re-written and made into a turf war set it in Trinidad. The narrator becomes the Midnight Robber and the devil is Jab Molassie, both traditional Carnival characters in Trinidadian culture. The soldier is 'Starboy,' a young musician from the hills of Laventille, which overlooks the capital city of Port of Spain.
Plans for a production are currently underway.
